June 2010

Brethren,

Our dedicated Past Master VW: Ed Moritz has been given the  diagnosis of Cholangiocarcinoma or bile duct cancer. He has been told by the VA that it is inoperable and he has about 6 to 12 months to live, 4 additional quality months if he chooses chemotherapy. Ed has an appointment with Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to see if there are any other treatments available to him. There is some research mentioning liver transplant as a cure, which is unlikely at the VA, but he is preparing for the worst. He is in the process of selling his legal practice and accelerating his retirement to deal with the disease and not abandon his staff of clients.

None of this information is off the record. Ed is facing this terrible news with a level of courage I have never seen.  The prayers and good wishes are overwhelmingly comforting to Ed and he appreciates any contact from the Brothers of our Lodge and throughout the district. He is humbled by the outpouring of support
Please keep Ed in your prayers as he fights this terrible disease. As many of you know, Ed has been a integral  part of Jephtha for the past 7+ years, helping bring our Lodge back to its former glory. Ed and I were raised about 2 months apart and it is difficult to imagine Jephtha without him. I am proud to call him Brother and Friend.

Fraternally

A Social Heads-Up

If you are looking for something fun to do on the evening of July 17, come on into the Village of Huntington to a little place called Chesterfield’s. It is on the southeast corner of New York Avenue and Main Street on the second floor. Our very own Marshal, Bro. Walter Willems will be playing a gig there with his band, Indulgent Lucie! They start at 9:30pm and go on all night. Over a dozen of Jephtha's brothers came out in May to support Walt and his excellent band, and I'm sure this will be another great turn out.

Prayers

Please keep W:.John Forster and his family in your prayers as he continues his fight on the long road of recovery that lies ahead of him. He is currently recuperating at North Shore Medical Center in Manhassett.
